The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is not a course or class in Catholicism, nor is it simply a gateway to have non-Catholic children accepted into the Catholic school system. It is rather, a progression of learning and understanding that the Catholic faith is lived out through one’s relationship with Jesus Christ, who we believe to be our Lord and Saviour. Those seeking entry into the RCIA are asked to commit time to understand the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and, in due time, to accept and commit to the faith, its teachings and practices.
What To Know and Expect
Those who enter RCIA seek a relationship with God that is fulfilled and sustained through prayer, participation in the Catholic faith practices, and a commitment to live the faith. At first glance it may seem overwhelming as the history and structure of the faith is diverse. However, the process is designed so that all who enter are accompanied along the journey and are given extensive time to reflect and discern the solemn commitment that comes from being Baptized and fully received into the Catholic faith.
