The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick

The Anointing of the Sick is not only for those who are near death; it may be received by anyone whose health is seriously impaired, and it may be celebrated again if a person’s condition becomes more serious.
In this sacrament, a priest anoints the sick person with blessed oil and offers prayers on behalf of the Church. The sacrament brings spiritual strength, peace, and courage, and may also bring physical healing according to God’s will. It unites the suffering of the sick person with the Passion of Christ and reminds us that no one is alone in times of illness or weakness.
